Winter Preparation Update
The Work Behind a Great Winter Season
While guests are enjoying summer at Jiminy Peak, our Snowmaking and Mountain Operations teams are already hard at work preparing for the upcoming winter season. The months before the first snowfall are filled with maintenance projects, infrastructure improvements, trail work, and equipment upgrades that help ensure a successful season from opening day through spring.
This summer has been particularly productive, with crews tackling projects across the mountain to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety.
Among the many trail improvement projects completed so far, teams have cleared brush and vegetation around R1 and R2, while also mowing and weed whacking areas including 180 and Alex's. Mountain Operations has partnered with Snowmaking on these efforts and has also assisted with rebuilding water bars to improve trail conditions and drainage.

Several significant snowmaking infrastructure projects have been completed as well. The former Snowmax Building has been renovated with a new floor and repurposed as a storage facility for spare hoses and hydrants. Having critical equipment closer to mountain operations will reduce the number of trips back to the base area during snowmaking operations, helping crews work more efficiently when conditions are right for making snow.
The team's welding expertise has also been put to work on key upgrades to the snowmaking system. Josh repaired a leaking section of snowmaking pipe on Foxes between Hydrants 3 and 5, while Mike and the crew completed a major pipe replacement project on Lower Slingshot. This project involved excavating old pipe, installing new sections, and removing and resetting snow guns in the affected areas. These improvements will help strengthen the system and ensure reliable operation throughout the season.
Across the mountain, crews have been busy resetting snowmaking gun bases, replacing broken gun jacks, and repositioning equipment to improve winter operations. One notable project involved relocating tall tower guns from inventory to Widow's, reducing the number of ground guns that will need to be moved there during the winter season.
Preparation work extends beyond snowmaking. Extensive tree trimming and vegetation management have been completed on trails requiring slope light repairs, including Race Arena. These efforts improve access for maintenance work and contribute to a safer skiing and riding environment. Tree trimming activities will continue throughout the summer and fall until snowmaking begins.
In addition, slope light and light pole replacement projects are taking place throughout the mountain, helping maintain visibility and safety for guests during evening operations.
The amount of work that goes into preparing for winter often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt all season long. From trail maintenance and infrastructure improvements to snowmaking upgrades and lighting repairs, every project completed today helps set the stage for a successful winter tomorrow.
A special thank you to the Snowmaking and Mountain Operations teams for their dedication, hard work, and teamwork. Their efforts continue to make Jiminy Peak ready for another outstanding winter season.
